The deputy commander of Joint Operations, Lieutenant General Qais Al-Mohammadawi, revealed on Sunday, the details of a set of files, most notably the security agreement concluded between Iraq and Iran, and the tasks of the Supreme Security Committee for the provincial elections, while pointing to the move to hold the Turkish borders after reaching understandings.
The security agreement with Iran.
He said, in an interview conducted by the Iraqi News Agency INA "With regard to the security agreement with Iran, A Higher Committee formed under the chairmanship of national security adviser Qasem al-Araji, and specialized officers from the ministries of Defense, Interior, advisory and security services, has been working for almost a year on developing a mechanism for agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the border control by our federal sectors, specifically the border sectors,", pointing out that "there is an agreement to remove the Iranian Kurdish opposition located on the border”.
He added that "This mechanism has started to work, and over the past two weeks there have been more than 10 to 12 checkpoints that have been held by the border sections, and the elements of the Iranian-Kurdish opposition have been removed from the border towards the center according to specific places”.
The national security advisory office announced this morning that “National security adviser Qassem al-Araji headed a security delegation to Tehran under the guidance of the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces”.
It added that “This comes to complete the implementation of the security agreement between Iraq and Iran”.
Protection of sovereignty:
He added that " the Iraqi constitution is clear and we never allow Iraq to be a springboard for aggression against neighboring countries, whether Iran, Turkey or other countries, and at the same time there is an affirmation from the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, the Constitution and what dictates our mission and function, that the sovereignty of Iraq and respect for it and respect for customs is very important," expressing his hope that "this work will continue in accordance with agreements and diplomatic and security activity on the borders whether with Iran or Turkey for the purpose of mutual respect and preservation of sovereignty”.
He explained that "the issue of whether Iranian, Turkish or any other country violating the sovereignty of Iraq is unacceptable, and this is a fixed vision, whether at the parliamentary, governmental or national level and the security leadership, so we hope that the border forces will continue to hold these points and the agreement goes towards ending all its details and tightening its loose ends", stressing that "there is a great work to hold the Turkish borders and reach certain understandings, we hope that it will take its right course".
Turkish attacks:
He pointed out that" the recent Turkish attacks are a very clear violation of Iraqi sovereignty and unacceptable, and in violation of sovereignty and international norms and laws” explaining that “the message of Iraq was clear, and the statements of the commander-in-chief and the foreign ministry were also clear”.
He called on the Turkish side to "find understandings to close many of these sensitive files, and go towards preventing any detachments attacking neighboring countries and respecting sovereignty”.
Regarding the fears of the return of Daesh, Al-Mohammadawi said: “We have high confidence derived from our great people, their potential, their great support for the heroic security forces, from our great experience of defeating Daesh and fighting on behalf of the world, as well as from our capabilities, which are constantly growing, offset by a significant decline in Daesh's potential at the level of recruitment, planning and
arming”.
He stressed that “At the level of local support now, all our people, especially the liberated areas, have known the brutality of this organization, its terrorist practices and its great crimes, but as a security vision, even if a number of detachments remain, it does not pose a danger".
Confronting Daesh:
He pointed out that" the organization is brutal trying to target civilians, gatherings and national events or take advantage of the opportunity, but our units of various types, specialties and addresses at the level of Defense, Interior and mobilization, our air forces and the targeting cell located in joint operations and intelligence security agencies, are pursuing ISIS, which received painful blows continuously”, noting that "last week we had 4 very successful air strikes in which more than 10 terrorist elements were killed in the districts of Kirkuk, Salah al-Din, Diyala and Hamrin Mountains”.
He continued: "We have a qualitative action in Anbar province that resulted in the killing of 4 important terrorist elements who were responsible for a brutal act carried out two weeks ago, as they killed citizens from Anbar and then slaughtered them and published ugly images in their media," pointing out that "the security sectors, specifically a force from the tribal mobilization located in Anbar, and as a result of the information and cooperation of Citizens managed to ambush and kill this group, which appeared in the video killing citizens”.
He pointed out "The continuation of painful strikes, pursuit, intelligence work, the spirit of leadership and teamwork, our confidence in our people and their great cooperation are all ingredients and data to pursue the remaining elements of Daesh and its end".
Provincial council elections:
Regarding the governorate council elections, al-Mohammadawi said: "by a Diwani order issued 4 months ago, we were assigned the chairmanship of the Supreme Security Committee for the governorate council elections, and we are working continuously with the commission and in high coordination, as we have come a long way and there are about two and a half months left to hold the elections, and we will work to complete all related matters, and there are technical and logistical issues being worked on by leaps and bounds".
He explained that " two simulations were conducted, the last one was in the presence of the prime minister, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, to inspect the devices and conduct a full data exercise, and what concerns voting and the efficiency of the devices proved to be a great success" noting that "A cyber security committee was formed of elements, officers, specialists and managers with regard to the technical side and cyber security, this is its duty only to inspect the devices for elections, whether polling, counting, information or other central devices”.
He added that “these things are important to give confidence to the Iraqi Street, elites and candidates in the efficiency of these devices”, noting that "there are more than 4 to 5 simulation practices, the latter may be more like Full elections, which will be at the beginning of December”
.
He added that "what concerns the Air Force and army aviation units has been prepared for the transfer of equipment and its delivery to announce the results at the same specified time not exceeding 24 hours".
He pointed out that" the security committee headed by us and the membership of more than 16 officers from all ministries and departments concerned, the judges present and representatives of the commission, is working to complete everything related to creating a safe atmosphere for this national benefit, we are working in the coming period and in coordination with the provinces and the High Commission to complete all the requirements "noting that "our departments have great experience in this area and have a great willingness to work and complete the rest of some joints so that things are complete before the election date”.
