Today, Sunday, the Japanese government announced 7 new projects under implementation in Iraq, while noting that its loans granted to Iraq last for 40 years, with a low interest rate of 0.2 percent.
The Japanese ambassador to Iraq, Futoshi Matsumoto, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “Japan, during the past twenty years, has presented 30 very large projects in Iraq that were implemented by Japanese companies,” noting that “there are 7 new projects under implementation, and in the event that the Iraqi government allocates some funds in its budget for next year, it will be implemented.”
Matsumoto added, "There are two projects for the current year, the first of which is the Basra Refinery Development Project, and the second is the water desalination project in Al-Muthanna Governorate, which has a value of more than $300 million, as it is a very important project for development and reconstruction in Samawah."
"Japan is working to continue its support through financing and very concessional loans," explaining that "the repayment of Japanese loans continues for a period of 40 years and with very little benefit, amounting to 0.2 percent." Matsumoto said.
