The Ministry of Electricity confirmed the formation of a joint committee with the Ministry of Oil to discuss importing gas from Qatar and Turkmenistan.
"The government has taken a set of decisions and formed a joint committee with the Ministry of Oil, headed by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity for Production Affairs in addition to the advisors of the Ministry of Electricity," said the Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadhil, to the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
Fadhil added, "The committee will go with a delegation to Turkmenistan, and study the possibility of contracting to import gas, and another to Qatar to discuss the possibility of supplying Iraq with liquid gas through one of the Iraqi ports."
Iraq uses gas to operate power stations distributed in the center and south of the country, which collectively generate approximately 7,000 megawatts per day.
