GE announces completing gas turbines with total capacity of 1,400 MW

    General Electric Company, detailed on Tuesday,  its completed work in Iraq during the first half of this year, noting the completion of the rehabilitation of gas turbines with a total capacity of 1400 megawatts, while the Ministry of Electricity confirmed directing its cadres to complete maintenance and modernization work in a number of stations within the ministry's plan for summer 2023.

    The company said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "as part of the preparations for the summer season and the increasing demand for electricity, and within the plan of the Ministry of Electricity to conduct periodic maintenance of electric power generation units in the country, we announce the completion of a series of gas turbine maintenance and rehabilitation projects with a total capacity of 1,400 megawatts in a number of power plants throughout the governorates of Iraq in coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity."

    The statement added that "GE focuses heavily on contributing to the training and development of Iraqi cadres and cadres of the Ministry of Electricity in several technical fields, in addition to focusing on public safety topics at work sites, where during the past years, it has held a series of workshops and training programs attended by more than 150 cadres of the Ministry of Electricity."

    Since 2011, the company has implemented strategic projects that have added 19,000 megawatts of electric power to the grid throughout Iraq including the Kurdistan region. It is worth mentioning that General Electric had prepared a comprehensive study of the transformation of the energy sector in Iraq in 2021, and the study included solutions and recommendations that include accurate and long-term scheduling of the maintenance work of advanced gas turbines operating in Iraq, which number 240 generating units distributed throughout the country, including the governorates of the Kurdistan region,
    Maintaining and rehabilitating the infrastructure for power generation and transmission to ensure stable supplies, strengthening the linkage between the Jordanian and Iraqi networks, and contributing to reducing carbon emissions from the energy sector in the country, in addition to joint work to enhance capabilities and develop local competencies through the establishment of a center of excellence with a unit for monitoring and diagnosing units.
