Iraq adds 10 billion barrels to oil reserves

    The Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul Ghani, announced today, Friday, the addition of 10 billion barrels to the oil reserves. 

    Abdul-Ghani said, during the inauguration of the experimental water injection project in the Majnoon oil field, north of Basra, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the project's capacity is 80,000 barrels per day, and the river water is used for injection and temporary treatment of four main wells in different reservoirs such as Zubair." Al-Mushrif and Al-Hartha,” noting that “the project will contribute to sustaining and increasing oil production from the field.”.

    The statement added, "The minister laid the foundation stone for the second gas isolation plant project with a capacity of 120 thousand barrels per day in the Majnoon field, and contributes to adding units to treat wet oil for the purpose of improving oil specifications and exploiting the energy available for the field.".

    He pointed out that "Abdul-Ghani also inspected the site of the central gas isolation station project in the Majnoon oil field, which aims to escalate production capacity to (400) thousand barrels per day, as the completion rate of the project has reached." (‎96%)".

    The Minister of Oil pointed out, according to the statement, to "the importance of the field management agreement with the Oil Exploration Company to conduct a three-dimensional seismic survey of the sites of Al-Hartha, Al-Zubayr, Mishref, which, after analyzing the data, contributed to adding the amount of (10) billion barrels to the proven oil reserves and (8) trillion." of gas.".

    The statement continued, "The Undersecretary for Extraction Affairs, Bassem Muhammad Khudair, praised the national effort in managing the oil process with high efficiency," stressing the importance of the Prime Minister's support for the ministry's efforts to develop the oil and gas industry, in addition to the guidance and care of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and his follow-up, and his emphasis on sponsorship and support. The Ministry for community initiatives, especially for families close to the field, and work to increase financial allocations in this regard.
