Oil: Government interest in investing in "free" gas

    The Ministry of Oil confirmed the existence of government interest in investing in (free) gas in the Akkas and Mansouriya fields, which were damaged by ISIS terrorist gangs, in parallel with the establishment of projects to invest in associated gas and produce clean energy.

    The ministry's spokesman, Assem Jihad, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "Iraq is determined to invest gas and stop burning it throughout the country, and there is a government interest in fields that contain free gas underground, such as the Akkas and Mansouriya fields, which were damaged by ISIS gangs.".

    He added, "The Ministry of Oil succeeded in agreeing with a Chinese company and other companies to develop the Crutch gas field in Anbar Province.".

    He added, "Iraq established the Basra Gas Company with Shell and Mitsubishi to invest gas from 4 oil fields with plans targeting 2,000 million standard cubic meters per day, and has now reached the ability to invest 50% of this amount, which is equal to about 1,000 million cubic meters, which is a very important development.".

    He continued, "There is a second agreement with the Chinese company (PetroChina) to invest gas associated with the Halfaya field in Maysan, and this will provide up to 300 million standard cubic meters per day. We also agreed with the American Baker Hughes company to invest 200 million standard cubic meters from the Gharraf and Nasiriyah fields in Dhi Qar, and these investments in total provide quantities A good addition to it is an agreement that will soon be implemented with the French company Total soon, and it is one of the fruits of the Prime Minister’s recent visit to France.”.

    He continued, "Iraq is working with a second axis of clean energy through the conclusion of several projects across the country."
