The Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, announced that the New Year will be difficult for most of the economies of the world, and half of the European Union countries will slide into recession due to the Ukraine crisis.
“This is what we will see in 2023. It will be a difficult year for most of the economy,” Georgieva said in an interview recorded last December with CBS when asked to comment on one of the latest reports of the International Monetary Fund, which predicts “a year of turmoil.” Global, and more difficult than the year we leave behind. Why? Because the growth rates of the three largest economies, the United States, the European Union and China, are slowing at the same time."
Georgieva noted that the European Union countries "suffered greatly" because of the Russian military operation in Ukraine. She stressed that "half of the European Union will be in recession next year."
She said that the fund estimates that "a third of the global economy will be in recession" in 2023.
