The management of the Great Basra Water Project announced Monday, the completion of two new phases of the project and their experimental operation, while it identified two procedures for the project to work at its full capacity.

The project manager, Nasser Hussein, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the site of the Great Basra Water Project is located in the Al-Hartha area, north of Basra Governorate, and is affected by a very small percentage of the salt tide that is witnessing a rise in the Shatt Al-Arab waters."

He pointed out that "the project will pump 100 percent water very soon and in the coming days to the Basra areas after two things are completed."

He also added: "The first thing: the completion of the current maintenance procedures for the project, which are on the site by the contractor, and the second matter is completing the contractual obligations that we demand of the contractor in order to start directly with the maintenance and operation phase."

He noted that "the aforementioned project has been completed, and the trial operation of the project was conducted, and it proved to be successful.

However, the maintenance and operation phase requires contractual commitments, which are currently being studied by the Ministry, and after this issue is resolved, the maintenance and operation phase begins."
