The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research( MOHESR) announced on Wednesday, the launch of the American grant for the initiative to support southern universities in the fields of environment and renewable energy .
A statement by the MOHESR, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "the American grant for the initiative in support of southern universities was launched to equip the Environmental Research Center and promote renewable energy research in the universities of Basra, Dhi Qar, Maysan and Muthanna, during the launch ceremony supervised by the Organization of the International Research and Exchange Organization" IREX)", noting that "the launch ceremony was held in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Nabil Kazem Abdel-Saheb, the US ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski, presidents and representatives of southern universities and members of the ministerial committee in charge of supervision and follow-up."
In his speech, the Minister of MOHESR stressed that "Iraqi universities possess the competencies and energies capable of managing and achieving sustainable development programs," noting "the importance of cooperation with international institutions and organizations in the areas of supporting infrastructure and providing positive climates responsible for community service."
In turn, the Ambassador of the United States of America pointed out "the importance of this initiative to focus on the environmental fields and renewable energy, which constitute a primary goal of sustainable development goals in Iraq."
The supervisor of IREX projects, Laurie Mason, presidents and representatives of Iraqi universities, reviewed the paths of cooperation in these programs, especially with regard to capacity-building and training to face challenges, produce sustainable solutions, and develop laboratory capabilities in the fields of scientific research so that the goals and mission of higher education institutions in Iraq are achieved, similar to experiments advanced global.
