Joint Operations Command revealed (JOC) on Thursday, that an agreement had been reached with the delegation of the Ministry of Peshmerga, which visited the Ministry of Defense today, on two important files, one of which is the acceptance of the people of the Kurdistan region in the Military College and Staff College, and the training of the Peshmerga forces by the Ministry of Defense.
The spokesman for the Joint Operations Command, Major General Tahsin al-Khafaji, told Al-Iraqiya News TV, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the mutual visits between the JOC and the Ministry of Peshmerga continue with the aim of deepening cooperation relations and agreeing on counter-terrorism mechanisms, filling security voids, carrying out joint operations, controlling borders and preventing smuggling operations and interest in intelligence.”
al-Khafaji, added, "There are joint coordination centers that continue their work, mutual visits, and the arrival of the large delegation headed by the Chief of Staff of the Peshmerga forces, Lieutenant-General Issa Ozer, an affirmation of the spirit of cooperation and working as one team for the benefit of Iraq as a whole."
He revealed that "today's meeting discussed two important files, which included opening new horizons for the people of the Kurdistan region in the Military College and Staff College, as well as the Ministry of Defense training the Peshmerga forces, and this was agreed upon during the delegation's meeting with the Minister of Defense and the Chief of Staff of the Army, For his part, the Peshmerga delegation confirmed its full cooperation in The areas of providing intelligence, pursuing terrorism, controlling borders, preventing smuggling, and cooperating on the ground through joint military operations in areas witnessing the movement of terrorist groups.”
The issue of combating fuel smuggling and the crisis it has caused, Al-Sheikhly explained that, “Yesterday, an important meeting was held under the guidance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, headed by the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, and included senior leaders, 16 accused in connection with the crisis."
