The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) participated in the regional conference for judges of freedom of expression in the Arab region in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, which was held by UNESCO for the period from 6 to 10 this month.

This conference comes as part of UNESCO’s efforts to come up with a unified work guide for Arab judicial bodies and judicial institutions that serve as a basic guide for freedom of expression laws and judgments issued by Arab courts against journalists because of publishing, broadcasting, transmission or digital space.

No attend from the Arab Gulf states in the conference, which laid a basic basis for a preliminary agreement for more than 17 Arab countries that were present, including Iraq.

The representative of Iraq contributed distinctively to presenting Iraq's vision for the coming period with regard to improving legislative formulations of draft laws on freedom of expression, access to information, and cybercrime.

The conference issued 19 recommendations, which were mainly adopted by member states under the supervision of UNESCO, an implementation mechanism will be established for these recommendations, with monitoring of judgments to be issued later by judicial bodies whose countries have committed themselves to those recommendations.
