Ministry of Agriculture confirmed on Monday, controlling the causes of Viral hemorrhagic fevers - VHFs in the governorates that recorded new cases, while confirming the implementation of a plan to spray and immerse animals for free to kill the cause represented by the tick insect.

"The ministry deals with hemorrhagic fever with an annual plan managed by the veterinary department and implemented by the staff. This plan is funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and provides its services completely free of charge to livestock owners," said the technical representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mithaq Abdul Hussein, in an exclusive statement to the Iraqi News Agency – INA.

He explained that, "the plan focuses on spraying and immersing animals in order to eliminate the vector represented by tick insects, as well as providing a full program of awareness for farmers in the various governorates of Iraq."

Regarding the harms of random slaughter and its cause by spreading the tick that causes disease to humans, he stressed that "the responsibility for monitoring random slaughter outside slaughterhouses is on several departments, including the municipal and health departments, but the executive authority is the municipality because any municipal violation is accountable for by law."

"Unfortunately, irregular sellers use the places inside the cities in order to slaughter animals away from the supervision of the veterinarian, which exposes the citizens to the risk of infection, stressing that all departments must work at one pace in order to protect citizens by spraying and immersion procedures, as well as combating random islands,” he noted.

On the situation in Baghdad, he explained that "according to Public Health Law No. 32 of 2013, there is direct coordination by forming a committee headed by the governor or whoever authorized by him from the membership of ministries of agriculture, veterinary, environment, police and the interior to implement the national plan."

"There is complete control over those causes in the governorates that recorded injuries, according to which animal movement and control were prohibited, and meat sale was closed for a specific period to contain the risk of disease, as well as the application of the spraying and immersion plan. As we focus on the awareness of the citizen in protecting themselves, by staying away from the causes," he comments on dealing with the causes of infection.
