The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, stressed the importance of maintaining the momentum in the war on terrorism, and preventing Daesh gangs from growing again.
Al-Kadhimi said, according to a statement issued by his office and received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the Prime Minister received this afternoon, Sunday, the commander of the US Central Command, General Michael Corella and his accompanying delegation."
He added, "During the meeting, they discussed security and military cooperation between Iraq and the United States, the course of the war on terrorism, the pursuit of the defeated daesh remnants, and the latest operations of the Iraqi armed forces in this regard."
The meeting dealt the strengthening joint security coordination, especially after the role of the international coalition against terrorism has moved to the stage of assisting in building Iraqi military capabilities and providing advice, support and empowerment, according to the statement.
Al-Kadhimi stressed the importance of sustaining the momentum in the war on terrorism, preventing Daesh gangs from growing again, or establishing footholds for them, and threatening the security of Iraqis and the region.
For his part, General Michael Corella stressed his appreciation for the combat level of the Iraqi security forces, the high performance indicators and their ability to implement their new field tasks, and take advantage of the air capabilities provided by the modern Iraqi Air Force aircraft.
During the meeting, according to the statement, they discussed the security and military situation at the regional level and joint coordination to end the activity of terrorist groups, and the threat they pose to the security and stability of the region.
