The First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Hakim Al-Zamili, congratulated the Chaldean and Assyrian Christians on the occasion of the Assyrian Babylonian New Year (Akitu).
Al-Zamili said in a tweet via his official Twitter account, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "On the occasion of the Assyrian Babylonian New Year (Akitu), we congratulate our Iraqi people, especially our Assyrian and Chaldean brothers on this occasion."
Al-Zamili added, "We are all proud, as sons of the Mesopotamian civilization, that there are authentic Iraqi components that have preserved the revival of occasions and celebrations known to the first civilizations on earth, namely the civilizations of Assyria, Babylon, Sumer and Akkad," noting that "these civilizations have roots that bring us all together with our various components."
