Iraq and UNESCO discuss culture heritage protection

    Iraqi Ministry of Culture and UNESCO discussed the implementation of projects for cultural heritage protection in Iraq.

    ”The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Hassan Nadhim, received the representative of UNESCO in Iraq, Paolo Fontani where they discussed enhancing prospects for cooperation between the organization and Iraq in the cultural and archaeological fields,” according to a statement by the Ministry of Culture, received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

    The two sides also discussed the possibility of implementing projects with the support of UNESCO, especially the places that were destroyed during the war against Daesh, as well as projects that contribute to the protection of cultural heritage in Iraq.

    For his part, UNESCO representative in Iraq Paolo Fontani affirmed the work to help Iraq rehabilitating the destroyed places, in order to stabilize and return to normal conditions, especially in the city of Mosul, noting "these works are among the essential elements for the protection of heritage and sustainable cultural diversity,”
