Cabinet Secretary-General Hamid al-Ghizi called on Thursday the Chinese company to start the Nasiriyah International Airport project within a week.
The General Secretariat of the Cabinet said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the Secretary-General of the Cabinet, Hamid Naeem Al-Ghizi, met today with the head of the Civil Aviation Authority and the executive body of the airport project."
"The rehabilitation and development project at Nasiriyah International Airport will be an important starting point and a shift in the reality of economy and development of the governorate, as it will provide jobs and the revitalization of tourism and trade," al-Ghizi said during the meeting.
He pointed out that "the General Secretariat of the Cabinet has resolved the administrative, technical, financial and legal matters, and the interactions between the Civil Aviation Authority and the Ministry of Defense, with regard to the area allocated for the project within the Imam Ali Air Base," directing "the necessity for the Chinese company to undertake the project, during a period not exceeding a week.
It is noteworthy that Nasiriyah International Airport will be implemented by the Chinese General Company for Structural Engineering with international specifications, and for a period of completion (36) months. The Chinese company will equip the airport, with all services and facilities for passengers, a capacity of (750) thousand passengers per year, in addition to the construction of a road linking the airport and the provincial center with a length of (25) km, and will also establish an air cargo building with an area of (5000) m2.
