The artists of Erbil celebrated the centenary of the presentation of the first play in the Kurdish language entitled Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi in 1921 in the theater hall of Erbil First School.

In his speech during the ceremony attended by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Masrour Barzani said that "the regional government remains supportive of theater, art and culture and its advancement by supporting projects in this field," praising those responsible for commemorating the occasion.

He added, "Theater conveys people's conditions through thick and thin, and plays an important role in transmitting many cultural and social messages and raising awareness, and sheds light on what the Kurdish people faced."

For his part, Minister of Culture and Youth Muhammad Hama Saeed said: "The Kurdish theater has many achievements, a long career, influential performances, awards and local and international participations," explaining that "art in our history goes hand in hand with the political struggle to stand against those who try to obliterate identity."
