Ministry of Transport announced Wednesday that its seismic observatories at the General Authority for Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring recorded four earthquakes southeast of Khanaqin city in Diyala Governorate.
The ministry said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "earthquakes were recorded at varying times, as the first tremor was recorded at 02:05:08, and its magnitude reached (2.9) degrees, as the second tremor was recorded at 03: 05:10, its magnitude was (2.9) degrees, and the third tremor was recorded at exactly 03:32:30, and its magnitude was (2.8) degrees, and the fourth and last tremor was recorded at exactly 04:29:06 with a magnitude of (3.3) degrees," indicating that "all the tremors are 12 km southeast of the city of Khanaqin in Diyala Governorate."
"The earthquakes were not felt by the citizens of the region," the authority said, calling on "citizens to be vigilant and stay away from rumors and false news and to abide by seismic commandments issued by the General Authority for Air Force And Seismic Monitoring."
