Spain and the European Union have positively reacted the desire of the Moroccan King Mohammed VI to strengthen relations with neighboring countries, and in turn have called for strengthening ties with Morocco.
During a press conference in Madrid, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said he would like to thank the King of Morocco for his efforts and remarks, we have always considered Morocco a strategic ally.
In turn, European Council President Charles Michel said during the same press conference: "We welcome what the King of Morocco calls for, adding that Morocco is a partner of Spain, and also of the European Union.
In a speech on Friday evening, king Mohammed VI expressed hope for "establishing strong, constructive and balanced relations, especially with neighboring countries", speaking of Spain and France in particular.
It is noteworthy that on May 17 and 18, about ten thousand African migrants, mostly teenagers and young people of Moroccan nationality, benefited from the relaxation of border controls by the Moroccan authorities and crossed towards the small city of Ceuta, which, along with Melilla, forms two Spanish enclaves located on the coast of the Kingdom bordering the Mediterranean Sea.
The incident took place amid an escalation of tension between the two countries since the beginning of April, after Madrid received the head of the "Polisario" Front, Ibrahim Ghali, to receive treatment for Covid-19.
