Presidency of the Republic of Iraq denied the news around President Barham Salih's refusal to hold early legislative elections on time.
“Salih strongly denies the news trended by one of the Iraqi local media that the President of the Republic, informed the political blocs of his refusal to hold early elections on their scheduled date next October,” said an official source in the Presidency of the Republic in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
"The news is absolutely untrue," the source added, noting that "the President of the Republic was and still one of the most keen on holding the elections on their scheduled date next October, and he confirms this in his meetings with Iraqi forces, blocs and political parties. This is documented through many official statements issued by the Presidency of the Republic,”
The source called on media and bloggers “to be accurate and credible, as well as to take information from official sources,” warning that "trending these news without accuracy aims to offend, and to be considered as suspicious purposes"
