Iraq and Iran stress the need to broaden mutual cooperation

    President Barham Salih and Iranian Minister of National Security Mahmoud Alavi discussed bilateral relations between the two countries.
     
    Alavi offered the Iranian leadership's condolences to President Salih and the people of Iraq regarding the tragedy of the fire caught in Al-Hussein Hospital in Dhi-Qar, according to a statement by the media office of the President of the Iraqi Republic, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
     
    During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries, their importance to the two friendly peoples, and the recent updates at various levels in order to serve the common interests of the two countries and the entire region.
     
    Salih stressed, “the depth of historical ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran and the need to broaden the horizons of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in all fields.
     
    “A capable, secure, stable and sovereign Iraq, with its balanced relations with its Arab and Islamic surroundings, represents a factor of stability and a center for the convergence of common interests of the countries of the region, and promotes regional peace and security,”said Salih.
    He praised the positions of the Islamic Republic and its support to Iraq, especially in the field of countering terrorism and confronting Daesh terrorist gangs.
     
    For his part, Alavi stressed, "the importance of the close relations that unite the two countries and peoples,” as he confirmed “the Iranian leadership's support for the security and stability of Iraq, and strengthening bilateral cooperation and coordination in countering terrorism and extremism , in addition to establishing peace in the region”
