Ministry of Interior announced on Monday, the decrease in cross-border smuggling, noting that this was achieved through using modern technologies.
The ministry's spokesman, Major General Khaled Al-Muhanna, stated to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the number of the cases of smuggling goods across the border began to decrease significantly, especially on the borders with Syria, pointing out that the ministry used modern technologies to control the borders and prevent the smuggling of goods.
Al-Muhanna added that the smuggling operations that are seized are for some agricultural products which were prevented by the Ministry of Agriculture, as well as some goods evading the customs and tax, affirming that some smuggled goods enter from Kurdistan region, contrary to the established controls.
Al-Muhanna also stressed that MOI’s directorates have intensified their efforts towards controlling the materials that enter the country illegally, as they managed to seize thousands of tons of goods.
