Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi received a request to visit Pakistan today, Saturday.
A statement by the Prime Minister's Media Office received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that "Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi received Pakistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi and his accompanying delegation.
The statement indicated that" during the meeting, bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance joint cooperation were discussed. Between Baghdad and Islamabad in the security, economic and military fields, they also discussed strengthening cultural ties and discussing the file of religious visits and the Pakistani desire to facilitate entry visa procedures for visitors.
"The meeting touched upon the need to develop the work of the joint committees, and establish them to come up with permanent cooperation mechanisms to serve the interests of the people," the statement added. The interests of the peoples of the two countries,” noting that “Al-Kadhimi conveyed the Pakistani Foreign Minister his greetings to the Pakistani leadership.”
Al-Kadhimi stressed "the importance of the relationship with Pakistan, in a way that enhances dialogue and regional stability," noting that "the development of joint cooperation between the two countries would support peace efforts and joint work in the fight against terrorism."
For his part, the Pakistani Foreign Minister conveyed "the greetings of the Pakistani leadership to the Prime Minister, renewing the invitation to Al-Kadhimi to visit Pakistan."
Mr. Qureshi stressed the role of Iraq, under the leadership of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, in achieving stability and prosperity in the region, and stressed that Iraq's stability is essential to regional stability.
