Russian scientists are working on developing models of malignant tumors with the aim of preparing personalized vaccines against them, including kidney, breast and pancreatic cancers.
Alexander Ginsburg, head of the Gamaleya National Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, announced that testing of these vaccines could begin at the end of 2025 or early 2026.
He added, "If the amount of funding remains as we agreed and expected, we will begin intensively developing other models of oncology diseases so that we can prepare vaccines against small-cell lung cancer, which is the most common type of cancer with the highest mortality rate and serious health outcomes, in parallel with skin cancer, where all the work has been done, and we will most likely work on certain types of kidney cancer, and perhaps breast cancer and pancreatic cancer," noting that "testing vaccines against skin cancer is scheduled to begin in September 2025."
Ginsburg explained that "two or three new lines will be launched to test models of oncology diseases on animals so that by the end of this year or the beginning of next year we can enable our colleagues in oncology centers to start testing cancer vaccines on patients suffering from these diseases."
Ginsburg explained that "artificial intelligence will be used to develop personalized vaccines against cancer, as they will be Neural networks are necessary for calculations, and in order to train artificial intelligence, a local database of genetic sequences of tumors will be created. The experimental base will include about 40-50 thousand tumors. He said that calculations using neural networks should take from half an hour to an hour.
It is worth noting that "the development of the vaccine is being carried out in cooperation with the Gertsen Institute of Oncology in Moscow and the Blokhin National Medical Research Center," as Andrey Kaprin, chief oncologist of the Russian Health Ministry, announced that "pre-clinical tests of the vaccine have already been completed."
