The South Korean government called on Pyongyang on Friday to accept Seoul and Washington's proposal and return to dialogue on the North Korean nuclear issue.
This call came after US President Donald Trump expressed his intention to engage in dialogue with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
A foreign ministry official in Seoul said that the South Korean government has consistently affirmed "its position that it is open to unconditional dialogue with North Korea in order to reach a peaceful solution to the North Korean nuclear issue."
He pointed out that the South Korean government "will continue to cooperate closely with the United States on the North Korean issue and its nuclear program."
