President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid confirmed today, Wednesday, that Iraq is ready to work to bring the views of Ukraine and Russia closer together, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky praised Iraq's neutral position on the Ukrainian-Russian conflict.
The Presidency of the Republic said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid met today, in the Congress in Davos, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, within the framework of his participation in the work of the World Economic Forum."
It added that "a number of pivotal issues on the regional and international arenas were discussed during the meeting."
The President of the Republic stressed "Iraq's position calling for respecting the sovereignty of states and the necessity of resolving and settling disputes through peaceful means and referring to the resolutions of the United Nations," explaining that "there is no winner in armed conflicts and the victor in them is a loser as a result of the losses in lives and property they cause."
He stressed "the need to invest serious international efforts to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict," noting that "Iraq stands at an equal distance from both parties to the conflict." He stressed "Iraq's readiness to work to bring the two parties' views closer together." In turn, the Ukrainian President expressed "his thanks to the President of the Republic for Iraq's neutral position on the Ukrainian-Russian conflict," stressing Ukraine's desire to "strengthen bilateral cooperation, especially in the agricultural sector and export the Ukrainian agricultural products Iraq needs, especially wheat, barley and barley crops."
