The Baghdad Municipality announced today, Sunday, the imminent launch of the project to invest in waste and convert it into clean electrical energy after completing the signing of the investment contract with a specialized foreign company.
A statement by the municipality received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that "the Mayor of Baghdad, Ammar Musa Kazim, gave this project great attention, in addition to the government's interest and support for its implementation as the first project to achieve environmental sustainability," adding that "the project is part of a plan prepared by the Baghdad Municipality to find solutions to treat waste in healthy ways and invest it to produce clean electrical energy, and several joint meetings were held with other supporting parties to accomplish it on the ground."
The statement added that "the Baghdad Municipality had previously announced investment opportunities to implement the project from the headquarters of the Baghdad Municipality building and received many offers from within the headquarters of the National Investment Commission."
He added, "The investment contract for this project was signed by the National Investment Commission with a specialized foreign company and will be implemented in the Nahrawan area on land allocated to the Baghdad Municipality with an area of (1000) dunums to be the first project to produce clean energy in the city of Baghdad and according to modern technologies that conform to international standards by treating and burning 3000 tons of waste daily to produce (100) megawatts of clean electrical energy to be added to the national grid."
