U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized on Friday that the United States seeks a government in Syria that does not pose a threat to its neighbors.
Speaking at a press conference, Blinken stated that he had discussed the situation in Syria with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and underscored the importance of continuing relentless efforts to eliminate the terrorist group ISIS.
The U.S. Secretary of State further noted that Washington envisions a Syrian government that represents its entire people, promotes stability, dismantles chemical weapons, and ensures regional security without threatening neighboring countries.
On the Palestinian issue, Blinken remarked that “Washington has observed encouraging signs over the past two weeks regarding the possibility of reaching a ceasefire in Gaza.”
