Sheikh Humam Hammoudi, the leader of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, said Monday that he hopes the shift in Syria's political structure will mark a turning point for a deliberate democratic transition.
"Syria is essential for Iraq and the region, which can only be solid in its stability, which makes us always interested in every emergency in it, and we are keen on its security, stability, unity and cohesion of its people, and its active role in the Arab and Islamic world, especially in supporting Palestine," Hammoudi said in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
Sheikh Hammoudi expressed his hope that "the change of the political system in Syria will be a turning point for a conscious democratic transition that preserves Syria's unity and status, and its people with all its components fair participation in governance through fair elections under UN supervision. The new regime should start its vision from the inspiration of its national affiliation first, then its belonging to the nation and its values and interests, in a way that enhances peace, stability and opportunities for advancement for all."
