Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari confirmed on Sunday that the border has been reinforced with units from the army and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).
Speaking at a press conference attended by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Shammari stated: “Today, we visited the newly created Western Region Police Directorate, an important directorate that oversees the western region of Anbar province, connecting the sections of Haditha, Anah, Rawa, al-Qaim, and Rummana.”
“We have established sections for the directorates of rescue, facility protection, and other departments,” he added, emphasizing the high cooperation, coordination, and support from the local government for this directorate.
He continued: “We discussed the intelligence efforts in these areas, particularly in the desert regions surrounding cities, potential threats, and the fight against drugs with the governor and attendees,” stressing the support and provision of all necessary resources for the police commands in terms of personnel, weapons, and other needs, as well as bolstering the intelligence effort in this critical region.”
Regarding the security situation on the Iraqi-Syrian border, al-Shammari stressed that “the border strip is fully secured by the Border Forces Command, with an excellent barrier system and advanced monitoring systems,” noting that “the border has been reinforced with additional units of the army and PMF, maintaining a second line of defense.”
“There is continuous follow-up by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces for all aspects of border security, especially the border strip with Syria,” he said.
