Al-Sudani emphasizes Iraqi government’s commitment to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership with Spain

    Media Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency INA that Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani visited the Casa Árabe in Madrid on Thursday evening, where he met with prominent Arab and Spanish figures from political, diplomatic, cultural, and economic circles during his official visit to Spain.

    The statement read “In his speech at the Casa Árabe, Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani highlighted the significant progress in Iraq-Spain relations, beginning with the Spanish Prime Minister’s visit to Baghdad late last year, followed by reciprocal visits by ministers and officials from both nations. He emphasised the Iraqi government’s commitment to establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership with Spain.”

    It further said that the Prime Minister praised the principled stance of the Spanish government regarding the aggression on Gaza and Lebanon, noting that this position reflects a strong belief in human rights and international law. He explained that Iraq follows a clear vision in its international policy and regional relations, built on productive partnerships, mutual interests, and measures that enhance security, stability, and fruitful exchanges with friendly and brotherly nations.

    The statement also said that “Prime Minister Al-Sudani also discussed Iraq’s unprecedented developmental movement, the growth of various economic sectors, and the country’s need for the expertise of Spanish companies—known for their reliability and efficiency—to contribute to infrastructure development and sectors such as agriculture, water resources, renewable energy, education, industry, and others.”

    Regarding the Development Road Project, the Prime Minister underscored according to the statement, Iraq’s strategic partnership with Türkiye, the UAE, and Qatar to advance the project. He emphasised that the project is open to participation from both regional and international partners. He noted that this initiative is not merely a transportation corridor but an international pathway integrating economic interests. Furthermore, he stated that the government seeks to take a leading role alongside oil-producing nations in advancing carbon bond programs and contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.
