Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani inaugurated, via video conference, 790 model schools across various provinces today, Saturday. These schools were constructed under the framework of the China-Iraq agreement and represent part of the 1,000-school project, in the presence of the Minister of Education.
The Prime Minister's Media Office stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that, "The Prime Minister congratulated all those who contributed to this achievement, particularly the engineering team of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers. He emphasized that the 1,000-school project, implemented with modern, model designs, is one of the significant initiatives carried out by successive governments. This project will alleviate issues of overcrowding and triple-shift schooling. The remaining 210 schools under this project are expected to be completed within two months.”
The Prime Minister noted,” that when the government assumed responsibility, the project’s completion rate was only 18% the government prioritized this initiative within the education sector, ensuring its execution to high standards and through equitable geographic distribution. He reiterated the government’s commitment to completing all school infrastructure projects, including the Ministry of Education’s “Project No. 1.”
The Prime Minister also announced, "that contracts for the construction of 400 additional schools in Baghdad and other provinces would soon be signed under the Iraq Development Fund these schools will be built by the private sector and maintained throughout the contract duration this initiative aims to address the significant shortfall of over 8,000 schools. Additionally, he highlighted ongoing efforts to develop teaching and administrative staff under the government’s program to enhance the education sector.”
