The signing of the agreement to provide consulting services and the agreement to build Nasiriyah International Airport with Turkish and Chinese companies were announced by the Ministry of Transport today, Monday.
In a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the ministry stated that "Abbas Sabbar Al-Baidhani, the Director General of the General Company for Airports Management and Air Navigation, signed the annex to the contract for the construction of Nasiriyah International Airport with the Chinese company (CSCEC) and the annex to the consulting contract for the construction of Nasiriyah International Airport with the Turkish company Kiklop Design Hertz Insaat."
In line with the decision of the Cabinet to transfer obligations and rights from the Civil Aviation Authority in favor of the Airports and Air Navigation Company, and in a way that expedites the foundation of Nasiriyah International Airport according to the specified schedule in the interest of Iraq and Dhi Qar Governorate, Al-Baidhani emphasized, according to the statement.
Taha Khaled Ismail, the director of the legal department at the General Company for Airports Management and Air Navigation, clarified, saying, "The department has prepared the annex to the two contracts in coordination with all its parties, and that the Chinese company will undertake the construction of the airport according to international standards, while the Turkish company will supervise the implementation."
Remarkably, on July 4, 2024, the Minister of Transport led an inspection tour at Nasiriyah International Airport and chaired a meeting with the Airports Administration and the Chinese company carrying out the project to assess the project's progress and completion rates and address any roadblocks to the airport's construction.
