Al-Sudani Receives US Senator Christopher Coons

The Prime Minister's Media Office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani received, today, Thursday, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee in the US Congress, Senator Christopher Coons."

Prime Minister Al-Sudani highlighted the significance of the partnership between Iraq and the United States, emphasizing the transition towards a bilateral relationship governed by the Strategic Framework Agreement between the two nations, following the end of the international coalition's mission according to a set schedule.

Al-Sudani also underscored the urgent need to stop the war in Gaza and end the genocidal war perpetrated by the occupation forces, particularly with the holy month of Ramadan nearing.

Senator Coons, for his part, affirmed that his visit to the region and his meeting with the Prime Minister were carried out at President Joe Biden's request. Senator Coons acknowledged the profound partnership between the United States and Iraq, expressing the necessity to broaden this cooperation to encompass economic, cultural, and health aspects, alongside the ongoing security collaborations as determined by the Higher Military Commission's sessions. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of achieving stability and peace in the Middle East and securing a ceasefire in Gaza and the Palestinian territories.
