Al-Mayahi: PM visit gave Wasit province an incentive to empower the agricultural sector

    The governor of Wasit, Muhammad Jamil al-Mayahi, confirmed on Thursday, that the governorate had received 36 billion dinars to secure sums for marketing strategic crops, while noting that the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani gave the governorate an incentive to empower the agricultural sector.

    Al-Mayahi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "The visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani yesterday to Wasit Governorate and direct knowledge of the farmers' needs gave them a great incentive to empower the governorate agriculturally."

    He added, "The governorate owns more than 4 million dunums suitable for cultivation," noting that "the governorate's plan for the current season exceeded 900 thousand dunums, and it is expected that the governorate's production of the wheat crop will be 800 thousand tons."

    He pointed out, "Wasit Governorate is considered the main feeder of flour for ten governorates in Iraq, in addition to large livestock."

    He indicated, "The governorate has received 36 billion dinars to secure the sums of farmers who market the wheat crop, and the farmer can receive his financial dues from marketing the wheat within 24 hours."

    He pointed out that " Prime Minister stressed during his visit yesterday to maintain the need to proceed with modern irrigation systems in agriculture in a deliberate and practical way to avoid wasting water," explaining that "Wasit was deprived of cultivating two million dunums due to water scarcity and lack of rationalization, and therefore the increased use of modern systems It will increase the cultivated areas."

       Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a Al-Sudani visited Yesterday, Wasit Governorate, and confirmed that the next agricultural plan will only include the lands of farmers who use modern sprayers, and the allocated loans and facilities, without interest, will facilitate the work of farmers."

    Al-Sudani reaffirmed, according to an official statement, "the emphasis on supporting poultry and livestock projects, provided that prices are maintained and the Iraqi citizen is not burdened," noting that "some manipulated prices by bringing products from abroad and marketing them as Iraqi products, and they were confronted legally."
