Iraqi government works hard to find solutions to water crisis, President Rashid

    President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, affirmed on Wednesday, that the water crisis represents a threat to the world, indicating that the Iraqi government is working hard to find solutions to the crisis.

    President Rashid met the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, and her accompanying delegation, where the Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Minister of Environment Nizar Amidi attended on the sidelines of the UN Water Conference held in New York, according to a statement by the Office of the President of the Republic, received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.

    During the meeting, they discussed the existing relations between the two countries, and emphasis was placed on strengthening the bonds of relations in areas of common interest in a way that achieves the common interests of the two friendly peoples.

    Rashid stressed that "the water crisis represents a threat to the world. Iraq is one of the countries that are greatly affected by the decline in the levels of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers."

    He asserted the need for international, regional, bilateral and multilateral action and coordination to find solutions to the global water crisis, indicating that the Iraqi government is working hard to find solutions to the water crisis and climate change and its serious repercussions on the population, as to work jointly with neighboring countries, the region and the international community to find common understandings and benefit from international expertise specialized in the field of climate action.

    In turn, Musar affirmed her country's aspiration to enhance cooperation with Iraq in various fields, noting that her point of view coincides with the President's propositions on the need for coordination and international cooperation to find solutions to the water crisis and confront climate change.
