Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi affirmed Thursday support for efforts to complete legal procedures so that Halabja becomes a governorate.
Al-Halbousi said in a tweet, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "on the thirty-fifth anniversary of the Halabja massacre, we affirm our solidarity with the families of the victims and our stand by the grievances and sacrifices of its honorable people."
He added, "We support all efforts to complete legal procedures so that Halabja becomes a governorate."
