Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani affirmed Thursday that redress for the oppressed and deprived cities is at the heart of the government's priorities.
Al-Sudani said, in a tweet followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "Today we remember one of the most heinous crimes against humanity, which is the tragedy of Halabja, which was committed by the exterminated dictatorial regime."
He added, "On this , we affirm that our decision in the Cabinet to vote on the draft law that requires converting the sacrificial city into a governorate is a moral duty before anything else."
He continued, "We always seek justice for the oppressed and disadvantaged cities, and this is one of the core priorities of our government."
