Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, on Tuesday, directed all education departments to celebrate on Thursday, March 16, 2023, the centenary of the poet Nazik Al-Malaika.
A statement by the media office of the Prime Minister, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that “ In recognition of the significance of modern Iraqi poetry, its place and influence on Arab culture, and for the importance of the innovating Iraqi poets who were the pioneers in this remarkable field, the Prime Minister, Mr. Mohammed S. Al-Sudani, directed all education departments to celebrate on Thursday, March 16, 2023, the centenary of the poet Nazik Al-Malaika, and recognise her role in Arab and Iraqi culture and being a model for women in our society.”
The statmeant continued,"The Prime Minster also appreciated the decision of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), which recommended choosing the leading Iraqi poet Nazik Al-Malaika as a symbol of Arab culture for the year 2023, and adopting the recommendations of the Permanent Committee for Arab Culture regarding the selection of symbols of culture and creativity.”
