President Rashid stresses the need to consolidate the historical relations between Iraq and Iran

    President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid stressed on Monday,  the need to consolidate the historical relations between Iraq and Iran.

    A statement by the Presidency of the Republic, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said, "The President of the Republic, Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, received today Monday, at the Baghdad Palace, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Mahdi Safri, and the Iranian Ambassador to Iraq, Muhammad Kazem Al Sadiq, and the accompanying delegation," noting that " The delegation conveyed the greetings of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi to the President of the Republic and the Iraqi people for continued success, goodness and prosperity, while the President of the Republic entrusted the delegation with his greetings to Raisi and his wishes for further progress for the Iranian people."

    During the meeting, the President of the Republic praised "the depth of historical relations between Iraq and Iran," stressing "the need to strengthen them to include various fields and for the mutual benefit of the two friendly countries."

    The statement  stressed "the importance of raising the level of cooperation," praising "Iran's role and standing by the Iraqis in the time of dictatorship and what followed it in the war against the terrorist organizations of ISIS."

    For his part, Mehdi Safri extended his thanks and appreciation to the President of the Republic, stressing "the desire and keenness of the Islamic Republic, government and people, to strengthen communication and cooperation with Iraq in various fields, in a way that serves the higher interests of the two neighboring countries and peoples."

    It pointed out that "the joint economy committee between Iraq and Iran will hold its meetings within days," noting that "the committee will discuss all issues of common interest."
