Al-Sahaf: A Russian government delegation headed by the Foreign Minister arrives in Iraq today

    Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Al-Sahaf announced that a Russian government delegation headed by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will arrive in Baghdad on Sunday on an official visit.
     
    Al-Sahaf said to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will visit Baghdad this evening," noting that "the agenda includes meeting his counterpart, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein tomorrow, Monday, in addition to meeting the three presidencies."
     
    He added that "the visit comes in the context of confirming Iraq's openness to all its partners and friends and the importance of strategic relations with the Russian side in light of enhancing investment and economic attraction, especially with regard to energy files," noting that "the two sides will discuss a number of issues and files related to the nature of bilateral relations and the importance of supporting and strengthening them in various sectors."
     
    Al-Sahaf said that "the relationship with the Russian side is essential and a multi-interest strategy," pointing out that "the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, in accordance with economic diplomacy and to enhance Iraq's role in coordinating regional and international interactions, and in light of visits in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, this visit comes in the context of strengthening all that, and confirms the nature of the development of basic and important relations in various aspects that witnessed the conclusion of agreements and memorandums of understanding with the Russian side."

    He pointed out that "the delegation will be high-level in diplomacy, economy and investment and includes multiple oil gas companies in addition to companies in various sectors," explaining that "the delegation includes media figures for more than 25 Russian media outlets, which will be present at the meetings."
     
    He stressed that "the visit comes to discuss the most important developments at the regional level, explore common visions and find basic approaches between Baghdad and Moscow on the most important challenges that should be worked on jointly, as well as strengthening the security and stability of the region around the most important files that need convergence of visions and positions at the regional and international levels."
