The Head of Hikma National Movement, Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, called today Sunday, on governmental and parliamentary committees to pay attention to people with disabilities."
Al-Hakim said, in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "during our meeting with US Special Advisor on International Disability Rights, Sara Minkara, we renewed our support and interest in people with disabilities, and we called on governmental and parliamentary committees to take care of them and work to empower them and legislate their own laws."
The statement stressed "the importance of programs and plans for the integration of this important segment with society," noting that "the successive crises and wars have left large numbers of persons with disabilities."
He stressed, "The need for society to show a culture of respect and support for people with disabilities, away from sympathy and pity for them," calling on "the media to assume responsibility in supporting this segment and their families."
