President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, affirmed Thursday that it is time to do justice to the Yazidis and provide them with care and attention.

A statement by the Presidency of the Republic, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated, "The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today, at the Baghdad Palace, the Emir of the Yazidis in Iraq and the world Hazem Tahsin, and his accompanying delegation, which included tribes sheikhs, social and religious figures, and elites from the Yazidi community."

Rashid indicated, according to the statement, that "the Yazidis are among the original components that made great sacrifices in the war against the terrorist gangs of Daesh, and were subjected to various terrorist crimes such as killing, displacement and captivity, and it is time to do justice to them and provide care and attention to the children of this national component."

He stressed that he was "very affected by the heinous crimes committed against the Yazidis by Daesh, as well as what previously happened in the city of Halabja of a heinous crime during the days of the dictatorial regime," noting that "all parties support the cause of the Yazidis, and seek justice for them from what they were subjected to."

He praised the "acknowledgment by the German parliament and other countries that what ISIS committed against our Yazidi people is a crime of genocide," expressing his "appreciation for their noble humanitarian position."

He called for "strengthening international efforts to identify the fate of the missing and absent Yazidis, and to resolve this issue because of its social and legal repercussions."

He pointed out "the need to expedite the return of the displaced, create a suitable environment for them, end their file, evacuate the camps, and rebuild the city of Sinjar as quickly as possible," calling on "the United Nations organizations and the Minister of Migration and Displaced to make more efforts in this regard, and restore the departments in Sinjar to work."

For his part, Prince Hazem Tahsin stressed "the adherence of the Yazidis in Iraq to their national identity and their insistence on strengthening unity among the Iraqi components, in a way that strengthens cohesion and bonds between Iraqis and preserves civil peace and security."

The head of the delegation expressed "the desire for the President of the Republic to assume responsibility for defending the rights of the Yazidis, and to be the protector and adopter of their demands for the return, the reconstruction of the city of Sinjar, and the provision of necessary services to the people of the city."
