The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, condemned the burning of the Holy Qur’an in Sweden, while calling for a three-point stand.
Al-Sadr said in a tweet to him, which was followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "After the persistence of the government of the Kingdom of Sweden in protecting (the burners of the holy Qur'an), and that is not freedom in anything ... We must take a serious stand:
First: My brothers, the Friday imams, must denounce this in a unified and stern manner, just as my brothers, the Friday worshipers, must bring a copy of the Qur’an with them to Friday prayers.
Second: Those with capital must build a monument in every governorate center for the Holy Qur’an, in coordination with the competent authorities.
Third: Collecting millions of signatures of condemnation and sending it to the Swedish embassy through a high-level Hawza delegation.
Al-Sadr added, "All of this is suitable as a first stage to be applied during the current week, please... With a complete avoidance of violence.
"But if the Swedish government hastened to punish them within the next 24 hours, there is no need to apply these points." Al-Sadr said.
