The head of the European Union's advisory mission to Iraq, Anders  Wiberg, confirmed today, Tuesday, that the mission aspires to work wider and larger in Iraq, pointing to the expansion of the mission's activities since 2017 to six provinces.

Wiberg said in a speech on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the founding of the European Union's advisory mission in Iraq, in the presence of the correspondent of the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "This moment is important and I have the honor to announce our work now after we have cooperated since 2017 until now over a period of time five years, and there are many partners working in the development of the security sector, and also with the partners, the concerned authorities and the different ministries.
Wiberg added, "During the past two years, we worked with Iraq in facing challenges, especially the Corona pandemic, and this strengthened relations between us, and this is considered a smart investment because we were able to work with our Iraqi colleagues, the Iraqi authorities, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Interior, the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, and the National Security Advisory."
Wiberg continued, "Cooperation continues with the security authorities and forces and with the National Security Adviser to develop the security sector in Iraq. The mission has provided continuous support, and we must support the security sector in parallel with our other activities."
He stated, "I saw a lot of improvements in the framework of joint coordination between us, and this is the highest level of cooperation, especially when we take a look at potential solutions and how to implement the national security strategy because it is very important that we give special advice in a timely manner, and this is how we work."
"Since 2017, we have expanded our activities to six different Iraqi governorates. At the present time, we are trying to expand our work in other governorates and cover it, which makes us re-evaluate our work and our responsibility on the ground and increase coordination between ministries." Wiberg said.
