Salih: The Iranian bombing is a dangerous and unacceptable escalation

    The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, discussed with National Security Adviser Qassem Al-Araji the Iranian bombing of areas in the Kurdistan region.

    A statement by the Presidency of the Republic, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, received National Security Adviser Qassem al-Araji, where they discussed the security situation in the country, especially the Iranian bombing that affected areas in the Kurdistan Region, killing a number of martyrs and wounding others.".

    The President said, according to the statement, that “the Iranian bombing is a dangerous and unacceptable escalation, and a violation of the country’s sovereignty, security, stability and the safety of its citizens.”.

    The statement continued, "During the meeting, it was stressed the need to follow up this file and with the highest levels with neighboring countries, as it is considered a dangerous escalation, and to resolve the existing security problems and files through dialogue, joint follow-up and diplomatic channels, and in accordance with the common security interests, the rules of good neighborliness and the principles of international law.".

    The statement went on, "It was also emphasized that the official position of the Iraqi state and its unified foreign policy is based on Iraq's categorical refusal to make its land a field of conflicts and an arena for settling the accounts of others and threatening its security and internal stability, as well as refusing to be a springboard for aggression against anyone, and that the security of neighboring countries and the security of Iraq is interconnected and shared, which calls for the importance of activating dialogue and joint cooperation to address security challenges, in accordance with common interests and common security, and in a manner that preserves Iraq's sovereignty and the integrity of its territories and citizens.
