President Salih Meets Jeanine-Hennis Plasschaert

The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, announced on Wednesday, that our country's circumstances call for calming tensions and engaging in a sincere, serious dialogue addressing the country's political crisis to chart out the political future for Iraq.

A statement by the Presidency of the Republic, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that “Barham Salih received at the al-salam Palace in Baghdad, Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert."

“Politics and recent developments- related matters in Iraq were discussed during the meeting and reviewed the way out of the current political crisis, “the statement added.

The country's supreme national interest must be above all other considerations, he added, while civil and social peace must be enhanced, by taking all the needed measures to safeguard Iraq.


The UNAMI Chief, in her turn, said that the UNAMI will continue to support the dialogue between all concerned parties to reach a solution that ensures security and stability in Iraq, and meets the Iraqi people's demands for a better time.
