The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, stressed today, Tuesday, that the retribution of those involved in the genocide perpetrated by the terrorist gangs of ISIS against the Yazidis is a duty and a right that will not fall.

President Saleh said in a statement “We remember with pain the eighth anniversary of the genocide committed by ISIS terrorist gangs against our Yazidi people and aimed at ending their existence. It is a sad page that shook human consciences for a crime that did not differentiate between a man and a woman, children and the elderly, and embodied one of the awful acts the world had seen in modern history.”

He added, "Retribution against the perpetrators of this crime is a duty and a right that will not fall, and we stress the importance of continuing the efforts of the United Nations and the international community to hold those involved in this crime against humanity accountable and bring them to justice, and to expose and document violations so that future generations and the world will bear witness to the meanness of terrorist groups that have tried to tamper with our country."

Salih continued, "The approval of the Yazidi survivors law is the least duty, and we must continue to work on fairness, compensation and empowerment of the victims, and to ensure the safe and stable return of the displaced Yazidis to their city of Sinjar and its reconstruction, in addition to revealing about 2,700 kidnapped whose fate is still unknown, and strengthening the internal effort and the international community to achieve this without compromise.
