FM Hussein calls for a conference to include countries suffered from genocide

    Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein called for a joint conference to include countries that suffered from genocide.      
     
    MOFA said in a statement, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), "Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met with The Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Genocide Prevention Special Adviser Alice Nderitu, as the two sides discussed the latest regional and international developments, especially those related to genocide cases.
     
    According to the statement, the minister expressed Iraq's support for the work of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), and the efforts of the UN Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da'esh/ISIL (UNITAD), he also touched on the suffering of the Iraqi people as a result of the crimes of genocide that they were subjected to at the hands of the former regime, Al-Qaeda and the terrorist organization ISIS, calling for a joint conference to include countries that suffered from genocide in order to raise awareness about those crimes and share experiences on how to address their effects.
     
    For her part, Nderitu stressed Iraq's support, and lauded the cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the investigation team (UNITAD), stressing its keenness to hold meetings on a regular basis to discuss issues that concern support for coordination and efforts to hold the terrorist organization ISIS accountable, and also emphasized the need to raise awareness about the crimes of genocide and hold its perpetrators accountable.
