PM directs three measures to address electricity shortage crisis

    Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi confirmed, today, Sunday, that previous governments did not expand sources of gas import and adopted one source, while directing three measures to address the electricity shortage crisis.
    The Media Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement, that "Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi presided today, an emergency meeting that included the ministers of oil, finance and electricity and a number of officials, devoted to discussing the electrical energy crisis that the country is currently witnessing, due to increased loads on the electrical network as a result of the freezing cold wave, and due to the lack of gas imported from the Iranian side.
     Noting that "the current government sought to sign several contracts to invest gas in various oil fields for the purpose of put a final solution to this problem within the next few years."
    The Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Oil to take several measures that would contribute to providing electricity to citizens and compensating for the shortfall in energy production.
